Heat Illness Prevention – Employee Level

Millions of U.S. workers are exposed to heat in their workplaces. Thousands become sick from occupational heat exposure, and some cases are fatal; however, illness from exposure to heat is preventable.

Since heat stress can cause anything from deterioration to hospitalization, and possibly death, OSHA encourages employees to drink water, get enough rest, specifically in the shade to prevent causing any type of heat stress. It is important for employers to remember that some workers are more susceptible to heat-related illness because of medical conditions, lack of physical fitness, and certain medications. Management should commit to preventing heat-related illness for all employees regardless of their heat tolerance levels.

This Heat Illness Prevention awareness course educates employers on the importance of preventing heat illness to keep their employees safe in their work environment. This interactive course will review terminology and identify symptoms and health effects, while going into depth on how to control and prevent heat illness. In addition, this course includes a video with real life scenarios and questions that assess learning in relation to heat illness and its prevention.
